Remember those long hours your mother spent in the kitchen to cook up that perfect turkey? The aroma and the unforgettable taste? Delicious but seems like a humungous task! But you too can cook up a turkey by following these simple instructions. Let’s see how to bake a turkey.
First let us get our utensils ready, you’ll need a large roaster with wire rack apart from the kitchen utensils. For a gathering of eight people, you’ll need the following ingredients:
12 pounds whole fresh turkey, 2 tablespoons canola oil or olive oil, salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, 1 medium onion, peeled and quartered, 1 celery stalk, cut in half, 1/2 cup fresh parsley and 2 cloves garlic, cut in half.
Firstly preheat the oven to 325º F.
Take the turkey and clear the body cavity and rinse it under cold running water.
Pat dry and sprinkle salt and pepper inside the body cavity.
Rinse turkey under cold, running water, inside and out. Pat dry with a paper towel, inside and out. Sprinkle salt and pepper inside the body cavity of the turkey. Now coat the outside of the turkey with canola oil and sprinkle salt and pepper to cover. Put the filling of onion, celery, garlic cloves, and fresh parsley inside the body cavity and your turkey is ready for baking.
Place the stuffed turkey in a roasting pan and put the pan in the preheated oven. You may cover the turkey with a tin foil tent. The baking time is 3 hours. For the color, you can remove the foil tent during the last 45 minutes.
Test the turkey, by inserting a meat thermometer into thickest part of the breast. If the temperature is 180º F, remove it from the oven and leave it for 15 minutes, before serving.
