Will you Bear a Cross Tattoo

When we first think of a cross it automatically takes our mind to religion and Christ. This is the natural association we make in our minds but there are more facts about this symbol than we think. A cross has been used as a symbol since before the beginnings of Christianity. It has been reinvented many times over, but is usually associated with one’s religion. A cross tattoo, therefore has become a mainstay for some people who want to show their affinity for their religious beliefs.

As most of the tattoos, cross tattoos can be found in almost any design, color, or pattern. Many are intertwined into other designs and no one part of the body seems to be preferred for this artwork. Cross tattoos are also often displayed, as memorials to loved ones who have passed on. It is not uncommon to find names, dates, and even faces now displayed around and in a cross tattoo. This mainly to show it as a proof of love and a sign that this special person will never be forgotten.

Celtic crosses are very popular tattoos, as well as the iron and tribal crosses. There is such history involved with crosses and tattoos and this specific tattoo dates back to 1000 AD. Celtic and iron crosses became popular in the medieval ages and were often symbols of nobility and military forces. The cross holds such an importance to many people and is very versatile in its uses. Many people will also use a cross in some rather disturbing tattoos, such as graveyard scenes, or coupled with skull and crossbones. Many in today’s Goth and vampire societies also get these tattoos, most often as a way to symbolize their courage.

As in everything nowadays, Internet is a great resource for cross tattoo designs and you can find several websites dedicated to this specific type of tattoo. Many of these designs are part of a tattoo artist’s portfolio and are not available for the general public. There are, however, a great number of websites dedicated to the cross tattoo.

The possibilities are limitless if you are considering this particular type of tattoo. Once you have chosen the artist who will be in charge of your tattoo, he or she will put your design images on paper so you can decide if that is what you really want, make the changes or additions you require and provide a finished product you will be proud of.

When I chose a cross tattoo, I decided to draft the design myself, which the artists at Vogel Tattoo were able to create into a finish design. I’m pretty pleased with the results, which combine various images, with the cross at the centre.
So don’t be afraid to take your design ideas to an artist – what they create can also give you an idea of just how good they are too.
