Log Splitter How to Build a Log Splitter

You will need the following to build a log splitter: I beam or an H beam of 6 inches or more depending on your cylinder size, a cylinder, 4 inches in diameter with a 1 3/4″ rod, control vale, control valve with detent for auto stop on return stroke, pump and engine, hydraulic hoses, a hydraulic tank that can hold 5-7 gallons, wedge and wedge support and triangular push block support.
Cylinder: Build the brackets for the cylinder. Cylinders with rods need more space. Make sure the cylinder is designed for at least 1500-psi working pressure.

Now take all the structure parts for welding. Align all the parts well and carefully do the final welding.

The hydraulic power is generated with the pump, tank, filters pressure relief valves, and control valve. This equipment is run by an engine.
